Whenever we have house guest who are from "away" (anyplace other than Virginia), I serve ham and Red Eye Gravy with biscuits for breakfast. Saute 1/2lb. torn ham slices in 3 T butter minutes. Pour 1/2 cup strong coffee and 1/4 cup water. Simmer low 5 minutes. They don't know what hit 'em! They all ask where they can get that ham and I share.

Born and raised on a Virginia farm, my husband is a connoisseur of good ham and he introduced me to this particularly delectable sliced ham. He learned his good sense from his grandma, a wonderful old-school Virginia home cook. This ham is sliced perfectly, wonderfully salted (not overpowering) and the perfect accompaniment to a lightly buttered sweet roll (try Pepperidge Farm country rolls or Hawaiian sweet rolls as a fair substitute). The combination of salty ham and sweet, buttered roll is sublime! They are the perfect bite-sized ham sandwiches for any special occasion.
